Australian Housing Market Update - May 2012
Soft April home values and expectations of lower interest rates point to a further improvement in housing affordability

Capital city dwelling values were down -0.8% in the month of April following the stability witnessed over the first quarter of 2012, leaving national home values down -0.7% year to date.

Based on the housing finance commitments data from ABS for March, the proportion of new housing finance commitments on fixed rate loans has been trending upwards since August last year.  The proportion of new loans on a fixed rate in March was 14.9% which is the highest reading since April of 2008.
